Knowing the Spirit of Truth, 2 of 3

10/25/2025

Hi all,

I needed to make this a 3 part series - so much to say! So this is part 2, part 3 next week. Imagine for today's installment that we are building a 3 legged stool. Each key I'm presenting is 1 leg of that stool. Here is the first of the 3 legs:

First leg of the stool to becoming sensitive to the Spirit of Truth:
I don't form an opinion until I perceive something in my spirit about that person or that person's experience, teaching, or claim of what God told them. I will often ask:"What do you think of this Father?" Or, if it pertains to someone in the body of Christ:"What do you think of this Lord?" (teaching, what they are doing)

For instance, in late 2001 after the attacks of September 11, the US Congress made a law called 'The Patriot Act'. There was much controversy because it expanded government surveillance without open warrants on US citizens or anyone in the US. With all those voices taking stances for or against, I asked:"Father:What do you think of the Patriot Act?" He immediately replied in a very typical avoidance of a direct answer:"Laws that were passed to protect my people will one day be used against them."

That is where my opinion stops and starts - with HIS opinion. I look no further until or unless He says more on the subject, or lets me see news reports that provide more information. Then I know it is up to me to do my own research before forming an opinion. If someone makes a claim for or against someone, some information, dream, vision, visitation someone claims but the Father or Lord are silent on, it is up to me to perform due diligence to figure it out. ('due diligence' means that which a reasonable person is expected to do before entering into an agreement)

Not forming an opinion at all, or at least not until/unless more information or research, has also helped me walk in love. More often than not, the Lord is silent about what He thinks. Most of the time His silence means the answer has already been revealed in the written Word, or I already know the answer due to common sense and logic, or I must search it out for myself.

Usually I don't forom an opinion because I don't care about someone's claims or stance, so I go no further. Very few things warrant further research. That is their story, they stand before Jesus not me, so I let it drop. It's not my business unless they make it my business. So what if I would do things differently, so what if on the surface it seems they are doing it wrong? That's their story, not mine. "For the just shall live by his own faith." I don't form an opinion, and move on if it's questionable.

Another factor is the fear factor. People will make decisions after having formed opinion, which causes them to take action that is rooted in fear - and they say God led them. Wrong. Their fear led them because they got their emotions (fear) combined with thinking and focused on (feeding on constantly) fearful things, and then they made investments or go into debt to build up supplies, or buy things all based and rooted in fear. When the western calendar was about to turn from the 20th to 21st century, I knew people who sold their property in California where prices are high, and bought a cheaper farm in Arkansas to prepare for the shut down of society....they said God led them to do it, but upon further discussion, it was actually rooted in fear. And...computers didn't shut down when the clocks went from 1999 to 2000. But they suffered great finanical and marital strain, and loss. Don't make financial decisions based on fear cloaked in 'God'.

To say it another way:
I want to know what is happening around me, good and bad, truth and error, so there is much to be heard. But I only listen to my Master's voice - I hear other voices, but I don't want to listen to them if they are in error. I will read them to the point I learn their point, but if they get off-balance I stop.

Not being offended is another benefit of not forming an opinion about someone. The trouble is most people think you have an ulterior motive to every response or statement. They read or listen through the lens of their hurt, previous rejection, or preconceived ideas. People will lay the sins of others who hurt them at your feet. Don't be offended by realizing they are hurting, and switch immediately to prayer for them rather than forming an opinion of offense.

2nd leg of the stool:
Cut out of your life all speculation. Don't watch social media or other media that is speculation. Speculation is opinion that cannot be proven by chapter and verse, or proven by facts. There are guidelines for such cases. First and foremost is common sense. Right alongside of common sense is the shifting of our attention to the Spirit of Truth so see what He thinks of what someone says. If something isn't common sense AND the Spirit of Truth is grieved, then it is rejected.

The 3rd leg of the stool is:
If it can't be found directly in scriptures, or if it isn't consistent with the ways of the Father found in scripture, it is rejected.

Bringing all 3 together:1, Don't form an opinion. IF the Spirit of Truth is silent within, it means to use common sense and/or your knowledge of, or search of, scripture to figure it out yourself. 2, Is what is claimed speculation or fact? If speculation, then trust the peace or 'doesn't feel right' within, and do your own research. 3, If something claimed isn't seen chapter and verse or isn't consistent with the ways of the Father, it is rejected. All 3 are needed to stay balanced. All 3 demand each of us be responsbile for our own lives, our own love walk, our own common sense.

For instance, gee, I wonder where I got this example:
If someone says the rapture will happen a specific date, your emotions may want to believe it because you want out of the burdens of life, the bills, the family issues, the pain of illness. BUT don't yet form an opinion. If those emotions so cloud your ability to hear the Spirit of Truth within, then you use common sense and search the scriptures like the Bereans to see if these things be so, BEFORE you form an opinion. When you do that you'll see scripture indicates we aren't there quite yet - so in spite of how your emotions would love it to be true, you reject it by common sense and chapter and verse. That's one element of staying balanced.

Relationships are SO important - true friends, not social media friends. House churches are relationship based, not auditorium or social media based. The relationships in them help a person stay balanced as part of the balance found in a larger family of faith. If you aren't having home meetings, or at least meeting a close friend in the faith regularly for refreshments or a meal, invest in someone. Invest in relationships. Don't be like a baby bird in a nest waiting for food to be dropped in. As much as you can to your ability, reach out to someone 'floating' between churches like you, or reach out to someone in the auditorium church you attend. Ask the Father to cause someone to come to mind or across your path you can get to know.

Of course house churches like any auditorium church can get off balance, but those who do are usually churches that aren't part of a larger fellowship of churches - they stand alone completely independent and can get isolated and focused on one particular doctrine. BUT, in general, a healthy, balanced house church and/or relationships with people who are balanced and themselves connected to others, will rub off the rough edges of a person's life like sandpaper. Not always fun, but needed adjustments in life along the way.

As the Lord told me in the February 4, 2001 visitation:"As it was in the beginning so it must be now. I'm moving in relationships." You will find all 3 legs within healthy relationships in Christ...but...there is more to say about hearing the Spirit of Truth within. So until next week, blessings!

Knowing the Spirit of Truth within, 1 of 3

Hi all,

How do we tell if someone's dream, claimed visitation, or vision is of their own desire to make a name or money, or from last night's meal that didn't agree with them, or even from a demon? How do we tell the difference between something being of God, or last night's meal that didn't agree with someone?

It is a sad commentary on the body of Christ that so many could not perceive all the words and dreams about the rapture happening September 23-24, 2025 were false - so this series is hoping to provide the tools required to know the Spirit of Truth.

In John 16:12-13 Jesus said this:"I have many more things to tell you, but you can't bear them now. However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth for He will not speak of Himself, but only what He hears. And He will show you things to come."

Our focus for this series is that Jesus said He had more to say to them but they couldn't handle it. Stop there and consider their natural concern would be that they would accurately hear whatever He was going to say at that later time. So Jesus called the Holy Spirit 'the Spirit of truth', meaning the Holy Spirit will communicate everything Jesus says exactly as spoken.

And that is the first hurdle
Trusting the Spirit of Truth within. We must spend time considering that the Holy Spirit IS the Spirit of truth, that He will accurately communicate what He hears from Jesus to us. Jesus said:"...for He will not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He hears, that is what He will speak..." How we perceive what He is communication follows.

We know what Jesus says from heaven to us is going to be the truth, communicated accurately in every way, every tone, every inflection, exactly as Jesus speaks it from heaven. But will we perceive what has been communicated or will we (have we) become dull of hearing? If we do perceive that Truth from heaven, will we step out in faith to act on it?

Once we know what is communicated from heaven is the truth, without one bit of change, we can understand what Paul wrote about it in I Corinthians 2:9-12:

"For eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man the things God (Father) has prepared for those who love Him. But, God (Father) has revealed these things to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yes, even the deep things of God (Father)....Now, we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit of God so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God (Father)."

If you've been taught the Father God has to be yelled at, pleaded with, manipulated by some formula by which to approach or get what you want, then you have been taught all wrong - all wrong. Just believe the chapter and verse. The Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth, is right now searching the Father for what He has prepared for you. And He will accurately communicate what has been prepared for He doesn't speak of Himself. That could be doing the hard thing and admitting a lie, or doing the hard thing like apologizing, or truthfully giving that grievance feeling in your spirit that you sinned - good or bad it will be the truth.

So now we know the role of the Holy Spirit is to search the Father for what He has for us, and for what He or Jesus says to us, and communicate these things with 100% accuracy.

The Witness
The second element to understand is that the Holy Spirit is the only one of the godhead active in personal ministry on the earth. In the capacity, He is in both heaven and earth at the same time. There is no time nor distance because He is here and He is there at the same time. Therefore what He hears there, is communicated here without error.

All things done by God on the earth in this age, is by the Holy Spirit. Let me explain it this way:Let's say we have a dad with a son. The father asks the son to wash the car, and he does so. The father is in the house having given his word to the son - wash the car. The son therefore has whatever tools he needs, or can request of the father what he needs, to do the job the father asked him to do.

So the son gets the water hose and begins washing the car. In our example, the father represents the Father God and the son represents Jesus. The water therefore is the Holy Spirit. Now who washed the car? Was it the Father who gave the order? We could say that in the same way we say a coach has won the game. But it would also be true to say the son washed the car because he actually did the work, in the same way the team did the work of winning. So both father and son, coach and players, get equal credit.

But the reality is the water washed the car. In a game, it was the ball that won the game - it went through the goal, crossed the line, or was hit, to make the points. That's why people keep game balls - the ball did the work and it's special.

The Holy Spirit is the one washing us. He is the Truth at the direction of Father and Son to effect their will in our lives. He speaks not of Himself, but whatsoever He hears, Jesus said. In that capacity though, He is the one doing the work. When the Lord visits me, I am in His realm by the Spirit. It is Jesus, the man, the resurrected son of God - but by the Spirit I am brought to His realm, my eyes are opened to His realm - by the Holy Spirit.

Every true vision, visitation, dream, manifestation of the Spirit, is done by the Holy Spirit. Jesus had the Spirit without measure John 3:34 says. We have limits to the Holy Spirit, Jesus in His earthly ministry, and now in heaven overseeing the body of Christ, does not.

In that capacity as the one working on the earth today...
The Holy Spirit is therefore a witness to all things. When the Father was teaching me some of these things He had me look at Genesis 1:2:"And the Spirit of God hovered over the surface of the water." I had been thinking on that and asked:"Father, why was the Spirit hovering over the water?" He said:"As a witness." I still didn't get it; "Why?" "Moses needed an eye-witness account of creation so he could write the book of Genesis."

In Acts 5:32 Peter has been defending his faith in Christ, telling the rulers they crucified Jesus, but His Father raised Him from the dead, and is ascended to heaven at the right hand of God. "And we are witnesses of these things, so also is the Holy Spirit who God has given to those who obey Him." (directed at them, not having the Holy Spirit because they don't believe.)

We've covered lots of ground today. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, the only one of the godhead personally ministering on the earth today - Jesus is of course, via the Spirit, but He won't personally be in person until His return at the end of this age. The Holy Spirit is a true witness, faithfully communicating what Jesus and the Father say and have provided.

Our spirits have been born again, recreated by that same Holy Spirit. He testifies to our spirit we are God's children. The question remains - how then do we perceive the Spirit of truth when someone says Jesus told them the rapture will happen September 23-24, 2025? How do we perceive the truth when someone claimed when Biden was about to be inaugurated, that Trump was going to come in with the army and arrest Biden, claiming Jesus told them, or the Father personally appeared to (her) to tell here these things? How do we sift true and false?

That's for next week. Until then, blessings,
John Fenn

Do you spiritual soap or body wash? 3 of 3

10/11/2025

Hi all,

Paul said in II Corinthians 11:4 they received another spirit after first having had the Holy Spirit. What does a false spirit look like? And how shall we identify teachers who have those false spirits attached?

First, note that Paul said in II Corinthians 11:13-15 they transform themselves into the appearance of the genuine, so that means by teaching or presenting 'their truth'. This is confirmed by what he wrote Timothy in I Timothy 4:1-2, that in the last days the Holy Spirit specifically states some will be drawn away from the balance faith by 'seducting spirits and teachings of demons'. In that context he mentions celibacy and demands all people stop eating meat as a teaching of a demon.

Perhaps that is an adjustment for some - that demons teach
But once you realize that Satan perverts the true for he cannot create anything, it all hits home - how he twists words, takes the true out of context, and causes people to focus on just 1 element or teaching until that is all they can see. Demons are excellent teachers; you can identify many teachings of demons if you just look around at modern culture. But that isn't our focus today.

Jeremiah 23 is where God identifies the characteristics of people in the flesh and demonic teaching.
The whole chapter is 40 verses long, so our focus will just be on the main points. The first 8 verses can be summed up in verse 1:"Woe to the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture, says the Lord."

After the first 4 verses expressing His anger at them, He promises in verses 5-8 to raise up the Messiah to be the Shepherd over all:"I will raise in the line of David, a righteous Branch, a King who will reign and advance and execute judgement and justice in the earth."

In the rest of the chapter, from verses 9-40,
The Lord provides us and Jeremiah with identifiers that we may know those who have a wrong spirit about them. In verses 9-15 both Jeremiah and the Lord express their grievance over the pastors and prophets and ministers who have corrupted His ways, and that none repent (v14). The Lord pronounces judgment on them, and from there we will pick up the main points.

In verse 13 the Lord says they cause His people to err.
In verse 16 the Lord says 'they make you vain', meaning they appeal to intellectual pride. One translation translates 'they make you vain' as 'they make you worthless' - the idea being your faith becomes worthless, stagnant, empty, no answers.

Also in verse 16:"...they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord."
In verse 17:"...they talk...out of the imagination of their own heart. (for example, saying no evil will happen to you)."

In verse 21:"I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran (with their own visions and words). I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied (in my name)."

In verse 26:"They prophesy lies..they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart."
In verse 27:"They cause my people to err and forget my name (balanced teaching) by them telling their dreams, which they tell every man and his neighbor, causing them to forget my name for Baal." Doesn't that sound like every so called prophet on YouTube channels telling every dream they had, every 'word' they have....God says judgment is upon them.

In verse 28 a plea for balance:
The (true) prophet who has a dream, let him tell it. And he (true prophet) who has a Word, let him speak my Word faithfully. For what is chaff to wheat? Says the Lord. (In other words, God's True is the true fruit, the false words are like the chaff blowing away in the wind. Which are you listening to? Which are you watching and reading?

In verse 30:"I am against the (false) prophets says the Lord, who steal my words every one from his neighbor."

The false prophet - and I mean Christians who give false words - have no original revelation of their own. This is because they have opened themselves to lieing spirits so they have to borrow words from each other. It is the perversion of the true, for with the True words from God, He will confirm His word by giving confirming revelation in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses. Satan perverts this and because he can't provide confirming revelation, they are left to steal words/teachings from others.

In verse 32:"Look! I am against those who prophesy false dreams says the Lord, who cause my people to err by their their lies and by their lightness (reckless respect for the true and rightful fear of God). I did not send them nor commanded them, and they shall not profit by me (I will not bless them nor what they are doing)."

In verses 33-40, the end of the chapter, the Lord says He will not respond when they ask; "What is the burden (Word) of the Lord?" He will be silent to them. In fact, in 36 the Lord tells them every person will have their own word from the Lord for their own lives - instead of running here and there for what this or that prophet is supposed to have dreamed and such.

Next week we start a new series about how to know the Spirit of Truth so we don't get deceived, and will also look at the role of the Holy Spirit in that process. We CAN know the Spirit of Truth within us, and discern when someone has a false spirit about them - that is for next week.

But for now, we have covered what a false Jesus, false Spirit (in today's message) and false gospel, and what the ministers of the false look like. We should be well armed with enough notes to weigh these things in our lives. Until next week, blessings!

Do you use spiritual soap, or body wash? 2 of 3

10/4/2025

Hi all,

After last week's message did you check your soaps and body washes to see which are soaps and which are not? LOL.

The false spiritual 'soap' in this series is what Paul described in II Corinthians 11:3-4 and through the rest of the chapter. He was afraid they were 'washing themselves' with another Jesus, another gospel, another spirit:"I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, so too you might your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity and purity in Christ."

The word 'deceived' is 'to completely seduce', and 'corrupted' is 'to shrivel or wither'. 'Minds' is 'exert mental effort (about)'.    'Purity' is 'hagnos', meaning 'the state of being pure' or 'blameless'. The verse in Greek then:I am afraid that as the serpent completely seduced Eve by his trickery, so too you would exert mental effort which causes you to wither or shrivel away from the simplicity and cleanness of Christ."

This describes how a person would leave the True Jesus, Spirit and gospel to believe counterfeits of each. This series is about the how and why of that process.

Verse 4 says:"If one comes preaching another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you (previously) had not accepted, (now) you will receive (them)."

What he writes is that at the first, they would not have and did not, receive a different Jesus, gospel and Spirit, but now they have veered off to receive such error. They did not even know they were believing a different Jesus, Spirit and gospel, that is how subtle Satan's seduction is.

It is later in the chapter that he writes of some of their characteristics. First, in verse 4 he says at the end:"(now) you tolerate  all that." In verses 6-9 Paul says he is not a skilled speaker, contrasting the presentation of the false as being delivered by good speakers, well polished in their presentation.

Paul says in verses 8-9 that he received financial support from other churches, not them, so that he would not be a burden to them. This indicates those presenting a false Jesus, Spirit and gospel try to get money from you (or in our times, advertisers who base pay to the provider on the number of clicks/views they get), whereas Paul rarely if ever mentioned receiving or requiring financial support.

In verse 13 he writes:"They are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ." The Greek reads this way:"For such are false apostles workers deceitful disguising themselves as apostles of Christ." The Greek word 'dolios' is translated 'deceitful', and means 'full of guile (ulterior motives)'. The Greek word translated 'transforming themselves' is a long one, but worth looking at:meta-schematzio. It is made of 'meta' which means 'to bring about change' and 'schema' where we get the English word 'scheme', meaning by deceit to change the appearance or substance.

But wait - it gets worse. In verses 18-20 Paul turns to the people who turn aside to receive a false Jesus, false Spirit, false gospel. In verse 18 he says they 'glory (boast, emphasize) after the flesh', meaning these people are all about the appearance, not the substance. They appear to be the true.

In verse 19 he says:"You put up with mindless/stupid/ignorant people because you consider yourselves so wise." The Greek word 'aphron' is used here, from 'phren' meaning mindless, stupid, ignorant, egotistical'. Paul said in leaving the pure Jesus, Spirit and gospel, they were so deceived they accepted the teachings of these stupid people. He did not hold back on those spreading false teachings!

But wait, there's more!
Verse 20:"For you endure it if a man assumes control of your souls and makes slaves of you, or devours [your substance, spends your money] and preys upon you, or deceives and takes advantage of you, or is arrogant and puts on airs, or strikes you in the face."

These false teachers are money hungry, does things to control and manipulate others, takes advantage of your desire to know, and even insults you - and Paul writes, you gladly believe what they say, not realizing you've been seduced away from the true Jesus, the true Spirit, the true gospel. Wow, sounds like he is talking to the social media followers of today!

Another Jesus
The challenge in Paul's day was a lack of understanding of God's love and grace. A false teaching called Gnosticism arose that blended Jesus with other gods and goddesses of the day. They denied the literal resurrection of Jesus, teaching that He spiritually arose, so that Christ is in each person, truth is in each person, and in essence, each must decide his or her own truth. Physical things were evil and going to pass anyway, so they taught you can live however you like and still be a Christian, still go to heaven. Sounds like modern culture doesn't it? Modern culture wants another Jesus, one that says love everyone, there is no sin, find your spirituality and truth and you'll be fine, let others believe what they want...and we all go to heaven.

Another gospel - what does it look like?
We must compare the real gospel, the genuine, to better see the false gospel.

A false gospel would bring a Jesus that doesn't cause us to stop sinning. A false gospel says you don't have to change for Jesus loves you just as you are. A false gospel says Jesus suffered so you don't have to - meaning a smooth and prosperous life in every way. A false gospel would say as long as you are spiritual you are okay for Christ is in you and that's enough.

The real gospel is about laying down our lives for Christ and for others. The real gospel is giving up our life to become more like Him. The real gospel doesn't ask what can Jesus do for me, rather, what can I do for Jesus? The false gospel adds Him to our lives like some 'soccer mom' looking at her day to figure out where she can fit Jesus into her busy life. No, the real gospel is giving Him our lives to do with as He pleases.

Jesus spoke of being hated for His sake. Jesus spoke of carrying our own cross, which is defined in the epistles, but especially in I Peter 4:1-2. He says as Christ suffered in the flesh so too we should have that thinking, for he who is dead ceases from a life of sin. Jesus spoke of a relationship with Him and the Father.

A friend once told me when he went to India his host told him:"We preach a different (gospel) than you do in America." When he asked what he meant, his host replied:"You preach if you believe in Jesus you will be healed, if you believe in Jesus He will restore your family, your wealth, your health. We preach if you believe in Jesus you may lose your health, you may lose your family, you may lose your wealth, you may lose your life." Which one sounds closer to the real gospel?

Next week I saved the best for last; A false spirit, how to identify it and its ministers. Until then, blessings,
